چکیده

Let ∆u + k 2 n(z)u = − δ(r) 2πr f (z) in R 2 × [0, 1], (1) ∂u ∂z , δ(r) is the delta-function, n(z) is the refraction coefficient, which is assumed to be a real-valued integrable function, k > 0 is a fixed wavenumber. The solution to (1)-(2) is selected by the limiting absorption principle. It is proved that if f (z) = δ(z − 1), then n(z) is uniquely determined by the data u(x 1 , 1) known ∀x 1 ∈ R 2. Comments are made concerning the earlier study of a similar problem in the literature.

On the near field measurement for the inverse scattering problem for ocean acoustics

Recently a near field measurement approach has been proposed to deal with inverse ocean acoustics. It uses the near field of the scattered wave instead of the far field pattern. In this paper we justify how this near field of the scattered wave can be determined by the given Green’s function on some surface surrounding the object to detect. This justifies the usual measurements in ocean acousti...

An inverse problem of ocean acoustics

Let ∆u+ kn(z)u = − 2πr f(z) in R × [0, 1], (1) u(x, 0) = 0, u(x, 1) = 0, (2) where u = u(x, z), x := (x1, x2), r := |x|, x3 := z, u′ = ∂u/∂z, δ(r) is the delta-function, n(z) is the refraction coefficient, which is assumed to be a real-valued integrable function, k > 0 is a fixed wavenumber. The solution to (1)–(2) is selected by the limiting absorption principle. It is proved that if f(z) = δ(...

15: Investigation of Statistical Inference Methodologies Through Scale Model Propagation Experiments

In the ocean acoustics community over the past two decades, statistical inference of ocean waveguide properties1–5 has effectively replaced matched-field and inversion type approaches. 6 This change in perspective is based on the realization that the multi-parameter inverse problem for ocean waveguides is non-unique, resulting in many possible good solutions and no consistent way to discriminat...

Inverse Problems in Underwater Acoustics

The paper presents an overview of the inverse problems associated with applications of underwater acoustics. The problems are classified into four main categories, according to the recoverable quantities : Acoustic source localization, bottom identification, ocean acoustic tomography and target recognition. The paper gives emphasis to the three first categories, and includes methods to solve th...

Coupled Ocean Acoustics And Physical Oceanography Observations In The South China Sea: The NPS Acoustic Component

My long-term research objectives are: 1. The characterization of meso to internal-wave-scale oceanographic processes that influence broadband sound transmissions in a coastal environment. Central to the characterization are the formulation of accurate forward relations and the quantification of the sensitivities and variability of the various observable acoustic quantities in relation to enviro...
